We invite you to join us for our monthly breakfast program. Our topic will be:
Cognitive Behavioral Treatment of Chronic Pain
Presented by:
Milton Spett, Ph.D.
Chronic pain often begins with an injury. The injury heals, but the pain continues. Why does this happen? Dr. Spett will explain the most important treatments of chronic pain, including traditional CBT, operant conditioning, psychoanalytic approach, stress management, mindfulness, relaxation, biofeedback, exercise, and acceptance and commitment therapy, as well as when to use each of these interventions. Case examples of successful and unsuccessful treatments of chronic pain will be provided.
Learning objectives. At the conclusion of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
            1. Assess the psychological causes of each presented patient’s chronic pain
            2. Develop a treatment plan for each presented patient’s chronic pain
            3. Utilize operant conditioning techniques, cognitive techniques, & behavioral techniques
            4. Determine if and how exercise, mindfulness, and relaxation should be a part of treatment
This program is intended for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, and graduate students. It will be presented at an intermediate level, meant for those with some prior knowledge of the subject matter.

The buffet breakfast will be from 9:00 to 9:30 AM, providing a chance to network with fellow professionals.  The presentation will follow from 9:30 – 10:30 AM.  Payments may be made at the door by check (made out to MCPA) or with cash, if you did not pay online. Please note, due to our contract with the Hamilton Park Conference Center, we are obliged to charge the full breakfast fee for reservations cancelled or missed after September 11th 2016.
