Enhancing Resiliency in our Patients

Presented by:
 Steven C. Atkins, Psy.D

1.5 CE Credit Available

How is it some young people adjust and function more effectively than others when dealing with life stressors?  What is resiliency and what are ways we can help children and teens develop the life skills that will equip them to grow and flourish?    Psychologists and other mental health professionals can play a key role in helping young patients understand the concept of resilience and “grit’ when living through difficult situations and/or traumatic events.  Attendees will leave the presentation with a better understanding of what resiliency means, as well as ways to enhance their therapeutic skills.  Concrete clinical examples will be offered as options for professionals to use and add into their “tool box’ when working with patients.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop a stronger understanding of resilience and be able to recite and describe resiliency.
  2. Create and implement clinical interventions that will help enhance resiliency in children and adolescents.
  3. Use CBT approaches to reframe negative narratives associated with trauma to increase young patients’ resiliency toward dealing with life.

This program is intended for psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, and graduate students.
