Dr. Wulach is a licensed clinical psychologist and attorney, served as past President of NJPA and is a professor of psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.

Program Narrative:

This program will review common situations in the practice of psychology that create higher than average risks for State Board complaints and lawsuits. The presenter will discuss ways of analyzing such issues in order to lower the psychologist's risk profile and probability of legal entanglements, as well as approaches to managing such complaints when they occur. There will be an overview of typical scenarios that emerge in working with children, marital therapy, borderline and psychotic patients, forensic evaluations, billing, group practices, and recent laws and regulations. Audience questions and participation regarding one's own practice dilemmas will be encouraged.

Learning objectives:
a. Develop an analytical approach to analyzing and managing risk in psychological practice.
b. Understand 5 common high risk areas of practice
c. Learn how to apply risk management strategies to each of the 5 common high risk areas ..
d. Review, & analyze and provide strategies for handling 3 recent laws & regulations that pose new risks
for psychologists
e. Understand the process and 3 strategies for managing Board complaints

Target Audience: Psychologists and Graduate Students
Program Level: Introductory, no prior knowledge of the specific topic is required
