Program Description
This webinar will discuss the particular realities of Central American children and families from the Northern Triangle (El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras), as they constitute one of the migration groups in the United States with the highest increase over the last three decades (O’Connor, Batalova, & Bolter, 2019). The presentation and related material will integrate a multicultural framework to examine three main areas that are relevant to psychologists. First, the webinar will discuss intersectional identities among children and families from the Northern Triangle as well as the context of their immigration journeys. Secondly, the presentation will focus on their lives in the United States, with a particular emphasis on the experience of microaggressions and oppression. Strategies on addressing cultural differences in psychotherapy and disarming microaggressions will be provided. Lastly, the webinar will include considerations for psychotherapy interventions and psychological assessments that consider the needs, strengths and realities of these groups.

Learning Objectives
1. Distinguish the realities of children and families from the Northern Triangle in contrast to other Latin American countries.
2. Integrate the intersectional context of children and families from the Northern Triangle to the understanding of distress, trauma, and other mental health disorders.
3. List microaggressions that are experienced against this group.
4. Formulate two strategies to disarm and address microaggressions that could arise in their work as psychologists with this group.
5. Apply best practices in assessment and treatment of Central American children and their families.
6. Conceptualize cases from a multicultural standpoint, and identify treatment interventions appropriately
