Introduction

South Jersey Psychological Association (SJPA) is a group of local psychologists who value contact with other psychologists. This kind of interaction adds a significant collegial dimension to our work and reduces the common feeling of professional isolation. We draw our members from the seven southern New Jersey counties: Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem. We welcome both experienced and early career licensed psychologists. Though a psychology license is required for full membership, we also accommodate and welcome associate and student members. SJPA is considered one of the most active and dynamic NJPA affiliates in the state of New Jersey.

Purpose

The purpose of SJPA is to foster professional growth and learning. We inform the membership of new developments and concerns, support practice development and management, provide education regarding the “nuts and bolts” of operating a practice, especially insurance issues, share the latest research and policy and place a strong emphasis on professional development. To accomplish these ends, we organize presentations during the year and have been able to attract very interesting and informative speakers. Some presentations carry CE credits for those who may need them. In addition to presentations, we hold general membership meetings. These gatherings afford opportunities to network with other local practitioners, to exchange ideas and to give members access to potential referral sources. In addition to our educational and networking events, we have a presence on the internet and are in regular contact with all of the membership through our very active ListServ. This tool has become a prime forum for sharing information. Once a year we meet with leaders of the New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA) where we are kept abreast of all the latest developments.
